What you need

Installed Hogwarts Legacy and supported controller or keyboard/mouse

Set up the game

  1. Create a character, select a suitable difficulty and follow the opening lessons. Learn targeting, basic cast, spell selection, defensive actions and healing through the tutorial.
  2. Read the quest log and track the next objective. New lessons and assignments provide abilities needed for later activities.

If you play on PC for long stretches, a comfortable mouse or headset makes a real difference. Razer's accessory range is one place to compare options; check platform compatibility first. (Affiliate link: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. How links work.)

Playing Hogwarts Legacy

  1. Follow main quests and attend required classes or assignments to unlock spells and other progression.
  2. Explore Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and the surrounding landscape; use learned spells to interact with the specific puzzle or obstacle.
  3. In real-time combat, combine spells by effect and range. The developer’s Accio-then-Incendio example pulls a susceptible enemy close before using a short-range flame attack.
  4. Respond to enemy warnings using the defensive action the tutorial indicates. Use unlocked healing potions, plants and other tools as appropriate; track spell cooldowns rather than expecting unlimited instant repetition.
  5. Complete each quest’s stated encounter or interaction and its finish step. Progress through the main story; optional collections and exploration are separate from reaching its ending.

Range gives the combination a purpose

A susceptible enemy stands beyond Incendio’s useful reach. Instead of casting it repeatedly from there, pull the target closer with Accio and then use the flame spell when it is in range. If that enemy resists the pull, choose a different approach; a successful sequence against one target is not a rule that every creature must react identically.

Use a spell for its role

A pulling spell, a close-range damaging spell and a stealth charm solve different problems. Read the current tooltip and check whether the enemy or obstacle is susceptible. Combining effects can be more useful than using every available attack immediately. If a fight becomes confusing, reduce the number of unfamiliar tools in your plan, learn a simple sequence and add another option once you can also respond to defensive warnings. Difficulty choices exist to let the story and challenge fit different players.

Beginner decisions

  • Prepare a spell selection for the task ahead rather than discovering an essential tool is unavailable during a fight.
  • When a puzzle seems impossible, check whether a lesson or assignment unlocks the needed spell before searching the same room repeatedly.

Common rule mix-ups

  • Expecting online co-op because NPC companions join some quests.
  • Using a short-range spell from too far away and mistaking the range problem for weak damage.
