What you need

Hasbro Twister mat and spinner

Set up the game

  1. Spread the mat flat on a clear floor with room around it, and choose someone to operate the spinner.
  2. Use the instructions included with your Twister edition; some sets include different call mechanics or game formats.

Playing Twister

  1. The referee spins and announces the body part and color. Players place that hand or foot on an eligible circle as instructed.
  2. Keep other hands and feet in position until a call changes them. Follow the edition’s rule for occupied circles and a call impossible to complete.
  3. A player who falls or puts an elbow or knee on the mat is eliminated under the classic rules.
  4. The last player remaining wins; there is no separate point score.

A difficult reach

Your right hand is on red and the spinner calls right hand blue. You must transfer that hand to a permitted blue circle while keeping the other limbs placed. If your knee touches the mat during the move, the classic elimination rule applies.

Balance is the objective, not speed

The spinner determines a limb and color; the challenge comes from preserving previous positions while reaching the new circle. Clearing furniture and leaving room beside the mat are part of safe setup, not a competitive rule.

Beginner decisions

  • Shift weight over the supporting foot before reaching across the mat.

Common rule mix-ups

  • Treating an elbow or knee touch as a legal support.
  • Forcing a risky posture when a player should stop for comfort or safety.
