What you need

Destiny 2 on a supported platform, account and online access

Set up the game

  1. Complete the current new-player introduction and choose a class. Select an introductory quest from the Director rather than jumping straight into a raid.
  2. Destiny 2 is a live service; activities, power systems and available campaign access change. This is the basic Guardian loop, not a fixed seasonal progression chart.

If you play on PC for long stretches, a comfortable mouse or headset makes a real difference. Razer's accessory range is one place to compare options; check platform compatibility first. (Affiliate link: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. How links work.)

Playing Destiny 2

  1. Follow the active quest marker, defeat enemies and complete the specific objective shown. Collect and equip weapons and armor that suit the activity.
  2. Use class abilities, grenades, weapons and a charged Super according to the fight. In cooperative activities, revive teammates when the encounter rules allow and when doing so is safe.
  3. Return to the Director to choose another quest, destination or playlist. More demanding Nightfalls, dungeons and raids have distinct mechanics and entry requirements.
  4. An individual strike or mission succeeds at its stated objective; the broader game has no single final score or permanent game-over state.

A door stays shut after the firefight

The room looks clear, yet the next door remains closed. Instead of waiting for another wave, look at the quest marker for an interactable console or object. Completing that interaction may be the actual step needed to progress.

An activity objective is not always a kill counter

A mission can ask you to defeat a boss, activate a device or reach an area. If enemies keep returning, read the current objective in the interface and search for the required interaction. Strong gear helps, but it does not replace the encounter step.

Beginner decisions

  • Choose an introductory activity whose recommended difficulty you meet before attempting advanced cooperative content.
  • Read the objective marker when enemies keep spawning; some encounters require an interaction rather than clearing every enemy.

Common rule mix-ups

  • Treating every playlist as a six-player raid or assuming all players have access to the same paid campaigns.
  • Ignoring an activity's modifier or objective and judging progress solely by enemy kills.

Questions about this game

Is the entire game free?

The entry experience is available without buying every expansion, but many campaigns and activities require additional access; check the current activity listing.

Do I have to play with a group?

Some quests are solo-friendly; strikes and raids have their own group sizes and mechanics.
