How to play Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Attackers plant and protect a defuser; defenders prevent the plant or disable the activated device.
What you need
Installed game, online access and supported controls
Set up the game
- Practice Bomb in training/custom or suitable unranked play; learn aim, lean, drone, rappel, gadget and interaction.
- Read operator equipment and agree who carries the defuser and how the team enters.
If you play on PC for long stretches, a comfortable mouse or headset makes a real difference. Razer's accessory range is one place to compare options; check platform compatibility first. (Affiliate link: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. How links work.)
Playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
- During preparation, attackers drone for sites and information; defenders reinforce appropriate surfaces and prepare gadgets and routes.
- Attackers gather fresh information, open routes and approach either bomb site. Defenders deny safe entry.
- The carrier completes a plant at a valid site location while teammates cover.
- Before activation, eliminating the opposition can decide the round; expiration without a completed plant favors defense.
- After activation, attackers protect the device until completion. Defenders must disable it; killing the final attacker does not itself stop an active defuser. Win the playlist’s required rounds.
A plant changes the task
Defenders eliminate the last attacker after a successful plant. The round is still live: someone must reach and disable the defuser before completion. Celebrating the elimination or waiting for the ordinary action timer can lose an otherwise recoverable round. Device status matters more than simply counting survivors.
Information has an age
An empty corner on a drone several seconds ago is evidence about that moment, not permanent safety. Advance while information is fresh and cover a flank. A defender chasing a drone may deny information but also expose a position. Describe what was actually seen and when, so teammates can judge its reliability. Destructible surfaces create new angles, so a corridor that looked protected earlier may change after a breach.
Beginner decisions
- Give short room- or doorway-based calls, including when the information was observed.
- Preserve useful routes between sites rather than reinforcing every nearby wall without a plan.
Common rule mix-ups
- Expecting a respawn during a traditional Bomb round.
- Ignoring the active defuser to seek another elimination.
Questions about this game
Can eliminated players help?
They can use available observation tools and communicate.
Do both sites require a plant?
